Khao San Road

Known as one of Bangkok's liveliest spots, filled with backpacker, Khao San Road is one of the most popular places to visit of an evening.

Although everyone knows about the area as backpacker paradise, in reality, Khao San Road is a sight that no traveller should miss. Restaurants, bars, music, massages, street vendors, food stalls, insects... Khao San Road has it all!

Khao San Road is the perfect place to party in Bangkok, and begin, or even finish, the night of your life!

Accommodation

And of course, if you're looking for cheap accommodation, in this area you're in luck! you're sure to find plenty of cheap hotels and hostels.

Nonetheless, due to its prime location in the historic centre, close to the palace and the Wat Pho temple, in recent years more luxurious hotels have begun to emerge in the area.

The Origins

The origins of Khao San Road date back to 1892, when King Rama V established the largest rice market in the city (Khao means rice). Between 1970 and 1980, cheap accommodation began to open in the area, and it began to make its name as a hippie area.

Its current fame came about when the Phi Phi islands became some of the most in demand tourist spots in the world. In the film The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, it's described as 'the centre of the backpacking world' in one of its first scenes.

Unmissable

Visiting Khao San Road is unmissable in Bangkok. And as well as this street, you shouldn't miss the nearby street Soi Ram Butri, close to the Wat Chana Songkhram temple.

Transport

You can get to the area by taxi or by tuk tuk, by the river to llegar Than Pra Atit dock.
