Northern Thailand 8 Day Tour Package from Bangkok

Day 1: Bangkok

On arrival in the Thai capital, you'll be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel. You can then spend the rest of the day as you wish exploring Bangkok. We recommend relaxing with a traditional Thai massage, losing yourself in the lively markets, indulging in local delicacies and watching the sunset over the skyline from one of the stylish rooftop bars.

Day 2: Bangkok

You'll have your second day free to go sightseeing around Bangkok and discover its most important places of interest - either on your own or on an optional guided tour. Don't miss a visit to the Grand Palace, which was the royal residence from the 18th century to 20th century. It's also home to Wat Phra Kaew, Bangkok's most sacred temple and home to the Emerald Buddha.

Day 3: Bangkok - Ayutthaya - Kamphaeng Phet

After breakfast on day three, we'll leave Bangkok behind and make our way to the former capital of Ayutthaya, where we'll delve deep into the ruins of this ancient kingdom. As we explore crumbling temples like Wat Yai Chaimongkhon, Wat Phanan Choeng and Wat Mahathat, we'll see how the jungle has taken over this once-glorious island city.

We'll also get to see the city from a different perspective, enjoying a cruise in a traditional longtail boat. Afterwards, we'll have a delicious lunch in a local restaurant before continuing on our trip to Kamphaeng Phet, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel to rest.

Day 4: Kamphaeng Phet - Lampang - Chiang Mai

Having had breakfast in the hotel in Kamphaeng Phet, we'll set off towards our next stop: Lampang. There, we'll visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, a large hilltop temple that we'll reach via the Naga staircase. Inside, we'll see the different buildings in the complex, the bronze Buddha statue and the relic of Buddha in the golden chedi, before we head to a local restaurant for lunch.

After eating, we'll continue north to Chiang Mai, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel to settle in and spend the rest of the day as you please. There's plenty to do in this lively city, from sightseeing to relaxing with a Thai massage and making the most of the bustling nightlife. Don't miss strolling through the night markets and enjoying a khantoke dinner, a northern Thai feast accompanied by traditional cultural performances.

Day 5: Chiang Mai

On day five, after breakfast, we'll head to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of the most important temples in the country. Thanks to its hilltop location, we'll enjoy spectacular panoramic views over Chiang Mai: a well-earned reward after climbing up the 309 steps of the Naga staircase, or if you prefer, taking the cable car.

We'll then visit San Kamphaeng Road, a long street lined with shops selling locally handcrafted pottery, silverware, sculptures, jewellery, wood carvings, silk products and more. In some of the stores, you can even watch the artisans at work! After lunch, you'll be dropped back off at your hotel to enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 6: Chiang Mai - Lamphun - Sukhothai

We'll begin our sixth morning leaving Chiang Mai behind and heading to Lamphun, home to the thousand-year-old Wat Phra That Hariphunchai. We'll explore this ancient temple and admire the impressive stupas and Buddha sculptures. The central golden stupa is thought to date back to the 9th century!

Heading towards the south, we'll next stop at Sukhothai Historical Park, located on the ruins of the first capital of Siam. Sukhothai, which means "Dawn of Happiness", was founded in the 13th century and marked the start of a golden age of Thai culture. Exploring the ancient city, we'll find almost 200 different buildings, including dozens of temples. We'll then spend the night in Sukhothai.

Day 7: Sukhothai - Lopburi - Bangkok

After breakfast, we'll depart from Sukhothai and make our way to Lopburi, a historic city known for its cheeky residents: the macaques that roam the streets as if they were in the jungle. As well as making new furry friends, we'll visit the ruins of Phra Prang Sam Yot, an ancient Khmer temple, and San Phra Kan, a Brahman shrine known as the Monkey Temple. Then, after a delicious lunch at a local restaurant we'll make the journey back to Bangkok, where we'll spend our final night.
